How To Add Legs To Malm Bed

A few months ago I went down to the Washington-Wilkes surface area of Georgia for their Tour of Homes (so awesome, btw), and of course I had to terminate into a few shops while I was there. I spotted this trivial dresser and I couldn't resist the hardware… or the $xxx price tag. I didn't fifty-fifty haggle, I likewise didn't even think nigh the fact that I had a dog and a married man who had to fit in the car on the way back to Atlanta. It all worked out, though. Good thing, the Hubs would've been mad if he had gotten left backside. Flash.

The inside of the dresser was stamped with the United Alliance of Carpenters label, so I knew it was fabricated well and worth saving. I'm not totally sure how old it is, I'm bold that the 5'due south on each side of the stamp mean 1955? Anyone know?

Either way, I loved it at get-go sight just knew I wanted to add some legs to it to raise information technology upward. I'thousand getting to be an sometime woman and anything I tin practise to go along from bending over is awesome. Okay, and so I'm not that old. But I am that lazy.

I started by removing the lesser trim on the dresser. That's when I realized that the "trim" was made up of 2×4's that someone had recently added. When I pulled them off, I saw that at that place had been legs on it. Furious. Someone took the legs off of this infant and added 2×4'due south!!

I had planned on staining this piece and so I got busy stripping off the paint.  I plant this astonishing stuff at Abode Depot called Klean Strip Premium Stripper. So. Piece of cake. It took ii cans, but waaaay less make clean up than not-spray. While I was removing the paint, I was still fuming about the fact that someone amputated my dresser. And and so this happened.

One drawer was a totally dissimilar color!

Cue peanut-butter-pharynx-wookiee-noise of frustration.

I sanded and stripped over and over and zero helped. I knew that if I stained it as it was, that drawer would take the stain differently and would always bother me.

Ugh! I mean, wouldja expect at that?!

So abrasive.

Ohhhhkay, paint it is, then. I sprayed it with a spray primer and permit it cure for a few days and flipped it over to add the tapered legs. Existent time commentary: My hound canis familiaris has the most insane, room clearing, nose hair singeing gas right at present. I'1000 dying.

Here's a leg hole from the previous legs. Sad story.

In social club to hibernate the woods supports that the brackets were fastened to, I added a couple of i×2'south around the edge every bit trim.

I added woods glue and clamped 'em down and let them sit for 24 hours. I ready the sides flush and set the forepart piece dorsum merely a bit.

I was still property onto the stain thought for the height ii drawers that didn't accept hardware but decided that might not look groovy with the paint color, so I went ahead and primed those likewise.

Later on a skillful sanding, I taped off the feet and painted the whole thing with HomeRight FinishMax.

I but record off the sides and set each one dorsum a flake so I tin paint the top lip of the drawer equally well.

After two weeks of drying/curing time, heeeeere she is!
